Funeral Mass for Cyprien Francois LaPorte, 75, of Lawton, will be at 1:00 p.m., on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Frontier Chapel, Fort Sill, Oklahoma with Chaplain (CPT) Ferdinand Madu, Fort Sill, Oklahoma, officiating.
There will be a Rosary held at 6:30 p.m., on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joachim Spexarth, Monk of St. Gregory's Abbey, Shawnee, Oklahoma, officiating.
Burial with military honors, will be at Fort Sill National Cemetery under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.
Mr. LaPorte died on Friday, February 5, 2010, at his home.
Cyprien F. LaPorte was born on October 10, 1934 in Arnaudville, Louisiana to Joseph and Lydia (Roy) LaPorte. He grew up in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana where he attended local schools. He joined the U.S. Army on July 1, 1955 and served during the Vietnam War. He married Theresa Ann Landry on June 7, 1958 in Orange, Texas. He retired from the United States Army on February 28, 1975. He also worked at K-Mart in the shipping and receiving department as a receiving clerk. He was a member of the Frontier Chapel Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Theresa LaPorte of the home; his son and daughter in law, Cyprien and Rene LaPorte of San Antonio, Texas; three daughters and sons in law, Cynthia (Cindy) and Jeff Avery, of Lawton, Oklahoma, Monica and Scott Thompson, of Vincent, AL, and Yvette Maiberger of Cache, OK; a brother, Abel LaPorte, of Cecillia, LA; four sisters, Melba Herbert and her husband, Don, and Shirley Michaels, all of Breaux Bridge, LA, Lily Haggard of Gonzalas, LA, and Mildred Taylor of Denium Springs, LA; one sister in law, Madeline LaPorte, of St. Martinsville, La; seven grandchildren, Shae and Josh Cairns, Adam Avery, Britney LaPorte, Donald Maiberger, Brandon Avery, Nicholas LaPorte, and Kalista Thompson; and one great grandson, Jordan Cairns.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Frank LaPorte, a son-in-law, Ronald Maiberger, two infant granddaughters, Bayley and Gabriella Thompson, a brothers in law, Robert Taylor, Jerry Michaels, Gus Herman, David Haggard and a sister in law, Rena Hudson.
