Funeral Mass for Phyllis L. Barber, 89 of Lawton will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. James D.M. Stafford, pastor and Deacon Herman Lawrence officiating.
She died on Sunday, September 28, 2008, in Lawton, Oklahoma.
Burial will be at Highland Cemetery under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.
Phyllis was born on December 13, 1918 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Stewart H. and Phoebe (Muratet) Lyons. She grew up in Oklahoma City and graduated from Classen High School. She attended Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri and then attended Oklahoma University where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She married George Winchel Barber on June 15, 1939 in Oklahoma City. He preceded her in death on May 1, 1987. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Entre Nous Organization, the Junior League, and Chapter I of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. She was a former president of the Lawton Philharmonic Women's Association and a former member of the board of directors of The Museum of the Great Plains. She was an active member of the Delta Delta Delta Alumni and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen H. and Margaret G. Barber, of Andorra; two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Gary Karrer, of Overland Park, Kansas and Dr. Elizabeth King and Mike Raffetto, of Keller, Texas; her sister, Mary Frances Danley, of Little Rock, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, G. Trent Barber, of Colleyville, Texas, Kathryn A. Hesskew and her husband, Jason of Edom, Texas, James S. Barber of Lawton, Oklahoma, Mason Karrer and his wife, Leslie, of Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. Julie Kleva and her husband, Johan, of Durango, Colorado, Arielle King, currently studying in Japan and Jonathan W. King, of Keller, Texas; two great grandchildren, Harper Ann Hesskew and Lark Muratet Hesskew; and a dear friend, Leonardo D. Greco, of Lawton, Oklahoma.
