Funeral service for SFC Greg Lamonte Sutton, 38, of Fort Sill, Oklahoma will be at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, June 15, 2007 at Frontier Chapel with CH-MAJ Kenneth Hurst, chaplain of 214th Fires Brigade, Fort Sill, Oklahoma, officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia with full military honors. SFC Sutton died on Wednesday, June 6, 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq. Local arrangements are under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. Greg was born on March 24, 1969 in Fayetteville, North Carolina to Claudie L. and Ollie G. Ward. He grew up in Fayetteville and graduated from Westover High School. Greg joined the United States Army in 1991, serving in Fort Hood, Texas, Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Fort Drum, New York, Korea and Iraq. During his time of service he earned several medals, achievements, badges and awards including; the Bronze star, the Purple heart, Army Commendation Medal (3rd Award), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (5th Award), National Defense Service Medal w/Bronze Service Star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (3rd Award), Southwest Service Medal w/Bronze Service Star, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon (3rd Award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3rd Award), NATO Medal, Combat Action Badge (Posthumous), Expert Weapons Qualifications Badge, Expert Driver and Mechanic Badge (Driver-T). While in the in military, Greg attended Central Texas College and received his associates’ degree in Criminal Justice. He married Joane Rullan on September 24, 2003 in Killeen, Texas. He was a Masonic Mason, member of Mistletoe Lodge # 31. He was an avid bowler and was involved in numerous leagues. Survivors include his wife, Joane, of the home, his children, Sari Nicole Sutton, and Andrew D. Sutton, both of Texas, Cailee Jenae Sutton, and Greg Lamonte Sutton II, both of the home; his mother, Ollie G. Sutton of the home; one sister Trivilla S. Connor, of Greenville, North Carolina, two nephews and two nieces, and a host of many loving friends. He was preceded in death by his father, SFC (Ret.) Claudie L. Sutton.
