Funeral service for Wilbur D. Allison, 86, of Lawton was held on Monday, July 23, 2007 at the Lawton-Fort Sill Veteran’s Center Memorial Chapel with Rev. Tom Willoughby, associate pastor of First Baptist Church and Chaplain Gerald Green officiating.
Mr. Allison died on Thursday, July 19, 2007 in Lawton.
Arrangements were under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.
Wilbur was born on November 23, 1920 in Lawton, Oklahoma to Frank and Avice Carmichael Allison. He grew up in southeast Lawton on the family farm that his grandfather received in the land lottery and his parents later purchased. That same family farm was declared a Centennial Farm in 2001 by the Oklahoma Historical Society and the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture due to the fact that it has always been owned and operated by the Allison family. His grandfather participated and was successful in the lottery that opened the area now known as Comanche County. After graduating from Lawton High School, Wilbur attended Cameron College. Worked for Oscar Cox Pontiac Car Dealership as a mechanic. He joined the United States Air Force on July 21, 1943 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and served in World War II, receiving the Bronze Star, the EAME Campaign Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged from the military on July 20, 1945 in Camp Fannin, Texas. He married Odie Cox on February 8, 1941 in Lawton. He owned and operated Allison’s Color T.V. Service in Lawton. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Odie, of the home; his brother, Bennie Allison, of Lawton; and his sister and brother in law, Joyce and Bill Gentry, of Ada, Oklahoma.
