Stanley was born on April 18, 1933 in Palatine, New York to Burton and Elsie (Blakeslee) Steenburg. He joined the United States Army in 1963 and served his country for over 20 years, stationed in many locations including Vietnam. While in the military he received many awards and medals including the M-16 Marksman Qualification Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditious Medal, Overseas Service Bars, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Good Conduct Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon. Stanley married Chom Si Choe in Korea. After his retirement, he worked at Fort Sill as a Security Officer.
He is survived by his children, James A. Steenburg, of Norman, Oklahoma and Susan Dodrill and her husband, Robert, of Lawton, Oklahoma; sisters, Vivian Kapala, of Fort Plane, New York, and Beulah Jones, of Frankford, New York; seven grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
Mr. Steenburg was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his brother.
