Funeral service for Alberta May Alandzes, 86, of Lawton will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at First Baptist West with Rev. Steve Mallow, of Immanuel Baptist Church and Rev. Harold Gaches, of First Baptist West officiating.
Mrs. Alandzes passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 in Lawton.
Burial will be at Highland Cemetery under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.
There will be a special viewing and visitation for family and friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at the funeral home.
Alberta was born on November 10, 1932 in Lawton, Oklahoma to Ellsworth Austin and Annie Alberta (Campbell) Dexter. She grew up around the Lawton area where she attended school. Alberta worked at Safeway and Herbs during the 1960's and 70's. She later was a sales associate for CR Anthony for many years where she was employee of the month many times. She married Roy Griggs, Sr. and later married Dale Protzman. On May 3, 1982, Alberta married the love of her life, George A. Alandzes, in Lawton. Mr. Alandzes passed away in 2003. Alberta raised six children and was Homeroom Mother and Den Mother and always made sure her children were in church every Sunday. She loved games such as Crying Canasta, Orbit, and Rummy, which were her family favorites. She also enjoyed crocheting and made all of the family afghans that will be displayed during her visitation and service. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons and their spouses, Roy Griggs, Jr. and Rebecca, of Oklahoma City, OK and Michael and Lesli Griggs, of Oklahoma City, OK; four daughters and their spouses, Carolyn and Jeff Smith, Marilyn and David Tyler, of Lawton, OK, Robin and James Gonsiewski, of Greensboro, NC, and Anita and Jim Byrn, of Newport News, VA; 14 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and numerous great great grandchild and other family members.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; two stepsons, Tony Alandzes and Freddie Alandzes; three brothers, L.A. Dexter, Wilber "Bill" Dexter, and LeRoy Dexter; and her sister, Joan Chiddix.
