A memorial service for Carl Wayne Miles, 61, of Los Angeles, CA and a former Lawtonian will be AT 10 A.M. on Friday, October 25, 2019 at the Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Lawton, OK. Elder David Butler and Minister Rosa Butler will officiate.
Carl Miles passed away on the morning of Friday, October 11, 2019 in California.
Carl Wayne Miles was born on December 15, 1957 in Port Arthur, TX. to Sgt. Clinton Miles, Sr. and Mrs. Hilda (Linden) Miles. The Miles family came to Ft. Sill, OK where Carl graduated from Lawton High School. While attending Lawton High, Carl participated in many sports to include football and wrestling. He was awarded the school’s Athlete of the Year in 1976. After high school, Carl attended Cameron University where he majored in music. He later relocated to Los Angeles, CA where he attended Los Angeles City College and studied music composition. He always had a love for music and was introduced to performing at an early age. Later in life, as a composer in California, Carl recorded two albums with Bill Shields, one of which was produced by Stanley Clarke for RSVP Records. Carl’s composition, “Wall Street” represented the firm Porter & Wright’s 2011 Holiday Electronic Greeting Card. His passion for music became his life’s work and he has countless original songs on Apple Music and Audio Sparks. Prior to his death, Carl was in negotiations to score music for a motion picture and several television series.
He is survived by four brothers, Clinton Miles, Jr. and his wife Rose of Titusville, FL, Corwin Miles and his wife Toni of Hesperia, CA, Cornell Miles of Salina, KS and Crinard Miles of Carson, CA; four sisters, Deborah Brown, of Phoenix, AZ, Demaris Rone of Lawton, OK, Denise Green and her husband Geoffrey of Lawton, OK and Duwannah Williams, of Lawton, OK; his aunt Velma Fowler of Oakland, CA and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother Craig; and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews and cousins.
