Cova was born on August 9, 1952, in Lawton, Oklahoma, to Leslie Covon “Hon” and Patty Jean “Rame” (Iverson) Hix. She grew up in Lawton, where she attended Taft Elementary, and graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1970. She worked for SWBT and AT&T for many years, before attending Cameron University and graduating with a Bachelors in Elementary Education and eventually a Masters in Counseling. After graduation she went to work for Cameron as an Instructor and Director of the Reading Center, until her retirement in 2014.

Cova married C.H. Brazzel on January 8, 1972, and from this union two daughters were born, Jenifer and Lara. Cova later married the love of her life, Robert Newman, on June 27th, 1981, and gained a son, Aaron.

Cova was loved by everyone she met, and her home was party central for every occasion and holiday. She was a warrior, who was passionate about everything she loved: God, family, friends, reading, Y&R, Jeopardy, birds, gardening, politics, and social justice. She loved OU and spent many weekends traveling to tailgates, home games, and across the country to support her Sooners. She never missed a performance or sporting event for any of her grandkids. Cova and Robert always had a love for cats, and rescued and raised a significant amount over the years. Cova loved traveling with her family and friends, but her very favorite thing to do was go to the movies with Robert and the boys.

She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Robert Newman, of the home; her daughter, Jenifer Brazzel-Stamper, and her boyfriend Lanny Perez, of Lawton, OK; her daughter and son-in-law, Lara and Jimmy Pesek, of Norman, OK; her son, Aaron Newman and his girlfriend, Erika Raschke, of Oklahoma City, OK; her sister and brother-in-law, Tonya and Mike Sanders, of Marlow, OK; her grandchildren, Ethan, Gavin, and Carsen Stamper, and Avery Pesek; her niece and husband, Amanda and Greg Hightower, of Elgin, OK, and their children, Kayden and Rylan Stedman, and Spencer, Brady, and Sadie Hightower; her life long best friend Debbie Welsh and her husband Gary; and numerous cousins, family members and a host of loving friends.

She is proceeded in death by her parents, Leslie and Patty Hix.
