Funeral Services for Donita Gail Mendenhall, 65, of Lawton, Oklahoma will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2017, at Paradise Valley Baptist Church, with Pastor Ordean Nelson officiating.
Mrs. Mendenhall passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at her home after a courageous battle against cancer.
Burial will be at Paradise Valley Cemetery under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.
Viewing will be on Wednesday July 5th, 2017 from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m.
Donita was born on December 18th, 1951, in Lawton, Oklahoma to Martin D. and Anna B. (Ferrell) Coppenbarger. She grew up in Lawton and graduated from Lawton High School. In April of 1968, she married the love of her life, Sidney Mendenhall in Wichita Falls, TX. Over the years she worked several jobs. She worked as a substitute teacher for the Lawton Public Schools and at Big Bob's Lumber and Rentals. For ten years she worked as a parking enforcement officer for the Lawton Police Department. For twenty plus years and until her health failed; she worked at the Southwest Veterinary Clinic as a receptionist. In her leisure time she enjoyed gardening and planting her flowers. She was an animal lover and especially enjoyed hummingbirds. She also enjoyed coloring and traveling to Eastern Oklahoma.
Donita is survived by her husband, Sid, of the home; her son and daughter in law; Sid and Vina Mendenhall, of Paradise Valley, OK; her daughter and son in law, Stacy and John Santos, of Paradise Valley, OK; her brother, Troy Coppenbarger, of Lake Ellesworth, OK; her sister (in law), Judy Riggs of Homosassa, FL; her nephew and niece in law, Derek and Amanda Mason, of Norman, OK; four grandchildren, Britnie, Brianna, and Nicholas Mendenhall, and Dylan Parrish and his wife Katie; great grandchildren, Andy and Easton Parrish.
She is preceded in death by her father, Martin; her mother, Anna; and her brother, Ronald Keith Coppenbarger.
