Funeral service for Eleanor Mae Kemp, 100, of Lawton will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Cameron Baptist Church.
Mrs. Kemp joined her Lord and Savior in Heaven on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 in the comfort of her home in Lawton.
Burial will be at held at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, Oklahoma under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.
Viewing will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Monday, April 22, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m with a special viewing and visitation for family and friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Eleanor was born on May 22, 1923 in Louisville, North Carolina to Norman and Annie Louise (King) Harris. She grew up in Hartford, Connecticut where she attended school. She met John W. Kemp, Jr. and they married on February 9, 1952 in Hartford, Connecticut. Eleanor worked for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft and later at Stanley Tool and Dye. She and John traveled through his military career, coming to Lawton where Eleanor worked for Fort Sill PX while raising her children. She was a member of the Fort Sill NCO Wives Club and was very active in the Latch Key Kid's Program. Mrs. Kemp was also a devoted member of Cameron Baptist Church. When Mr. Kemp passed away on March 24, 2012, Eleanor then lived with her son, Greg and his family until her passing. She loved bingo, crossword puzzles, playing games, and riding through the Wildlife Refuge.
She is survived by three sons and daughters in law, John W. Kemp III and Jenny, of Lawton, OK, Greg and Levy Kemp, of Lawton, OK, and Richard and Mi Harris, of Santa Cruz, CA; five daughters and sons in law, Philomena Williams, of Lawton, OK, Arla and Floyd Alexander, of Moore, OK, Karen Kemp, of Lawton, OK, Janine and Don Stoddard, of Virginia Beach, VA, and Gloria and Lawrence Taylor, of Glen Allen, VA; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; and her loving Hartford, Connecticut families, the Harris', Smith's, and King's; and many other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John W. Kemp, Jr; her granddaughter, Lindsey Marie Kemp; her grandsons, Billy Williams, and Donyell Williams; and her brothers and sisters, James Harris, Earnest Harris, Claudia Gomez, Dorothy Miller, Patricia Newby, Marie Freeman, Burness Harris, Fostina Christie, and Glen Harris.
