Etta Mary Laursen

Funeral service for Etta Mary Laursen will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at First Baptist Memorial Chapel, Lawton with Dr. Patrick Latham officiating.

Mrs. Laursen passed away on Friday, August 18, 2018 in Lawton. 

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 21, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. 

Etta was born on June 12, 1915 in White Oak, Oklahoma to William Madison and Ruth Dee (Anderson) Louthen. She grew up and attended school in Fletcher, Oklahoma where her father worked for the railroad. She helped raise her three siblings. Etta married a young soldier from Fort Sill, Oklahoma by the name of Chris Nels Laursen and they started a military family, living on post at Fort Sill and at facilities in Japan, Alaska, Ohio, and Lawton, which became their place of retirement. Etta worked as a bookkeeper at City National Bank and later at Lawton Machine Shop. 

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Lawton where the family attended when they were stationed in Lawton. She raised her family while her husband, Chris, was away at war for several tours and moved the family by naval ships to Japan and Alaska to be with him on those tours of duty. Mr. Laursen passed away in 1994. 

Mrs. Laursen is survived by her children and their spouses, Doris Darlene Rector, Otto and Bobbi Laursen, Chris and Cindy Laursen and Paul and Kay Laursen; grandchildren, Lisa Laursen, Lesley Laursen, George Rector, Catherine Gonzales, Kristin Trindle, Kerry Laursen, and Katrina Misley; great grandchildren, Colin Snell, Chloe Snell, Andrew Greb, Zoey Greb, Cora Misley, Isaac Misley, and Luke Gonzales. 

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brothers, Marshal Louthen and Leon Louthen; and her sister, Bonnie Justice.
