Funeral Service for James " Payton" Cozby, 93, of Devol will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 7, 2017 at Devol First Baptist Church with Patrick Struck of Coppel, TX officiating.
Burial will be at Devol Cemetery under the direction of Gray Funeral Home.
Mr. Cozby passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2017 in Lawton.
A special viewing and visitation for family and friends will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday August 6, 2017 at the funeral home.
Payton was born in Devol, Oklahoma on November 30th, 1923 to Thomas and Willie Cozby. He grew up and attended school in Devol. He joined the United States Army and served with honor during World War II. On February 15, 1947 he married Geneva Morrow in Waurika, OK. Payton was a member of the Burkburnett Riding Club. He enjoyed participating in rodeo parades and grand entries. He could often be found country and western dancing. He was a lifelong member of the Burkburnett American Legion and V.F.W. He always enjoyed the farm life and later in life was content to spend time in his garden. Payton loved life and was a friendly fellow. He had a kind soul and never met a stranger. He was truly part of America's greatest generation. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Payton is survived by his wife of over 67 years, Geneva Cozby, of the home; his son and daughter in law, Shane and Martha Cozby of Tulsa, OK; his daughter, Jimmie Denise Cozby and her partner, Gary Belvin of Devol, OK; his brother and sister in law, Flip and Joanna Cozby of Burkburnett, TX; three grandchildren, Heath Jung, Ryne Cozby and his fiance', Tayler Herr, and Hope & Dexter Pernell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and four sisters.
