Word has been received of the death of Jessie J. Thurmond Mayen, 90, of Mustang, Oklahoma.
Mrs. Mayen passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 in Duncan, Oklahoma.
A private family graveside service will be held at Elgin Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.
Jessie was born on December 17, 1929 in Webb, Oklahoma to Glenn and Ruby Mae (Jones) Hooker. She grew up in the Eakly/Binger area where she attended school. She married Alfred Thurmond on December 14, 1946 in Anadarko, Oklahoma. They lived in Enid and later moved to the Elgin area. She was a homemaker and also worked in collections for Affiliated Collections. Mr. Thurmond passed away on October 21, 1973. Nita later married Thomas Mayen in 1975. Mr. Mayen passed away in 1999. She lived in Lawton for awhile and later moved to Mustang. She loved to sew and make crafts.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Lee Thurmond, of Minco, OK; her son, David Alfred Thurmond, of Duncan, OK; five grandsons and a granddaughter; her great grandchildren; and great great grandchildren; her sisters, Vera Black and Glenda Harris; her daughter in law, Linda Thurmond; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Alfred and Thomas; her son, Robert Glenn "Bob" Thurmond; her sisters, Evelyn June McLeland, and Shirley Mabry; and one brother, Orville Hooker.
