Samuel Dean Oates

Funeral service for Samuel D. Oates, 64 of Lawton will be at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Terry Oates officiating. 

Mr. Oates passed away on Friday, September 8, 2017 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. 

Burial with military honors will be at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, Oklahoma. 

Samuel was born on June 19, 1953 in Germany to Jack Jenkins and Ina Ruth (Rhinehart) Oates.  The family moved to the Lawton/Fort Sill area where he grew up and attended school, graduating from Lawton High School in 1972. He served his country in the United Sates Navy and after the military moved to New Orleans, Louisiana where he worked for several years for the Gay 90's Carriage Company where he built and repaired horse drawn carriages. He returned to Lawton and worked for the Chrome Link until leaving to care for his parents. He married Linda Wilson Cole on June 12, 2017 in Lawton. Samuel loved Blues and Jazz and played the guitar. He was patient and loving. 

He is survived by his wife, Linda, of the home; step son, Zack Bass and his wife, Jennifer, of Lawton, OK; step daughter, Staci Bass, of Elgin, OK; grandchildren, Levi Mebane, Jayden Mebane, Hagen Bass, and Randi Morgan Bass; his brother and sister in law, Terry Lee and Shirley Oates, of Lawton, OK;  his nephew, Joshua Oates and wife, Maria (Rodriguez) Oates, and their son, Judah;  and his niece, Sarah Oates Lake and her husband, Joshua Lake, all of Lawton, OK. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant brother.
