Memorial service for 1SG (Ret) Alvin Wayne Akers, 73 of Lawton will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Jim Roberts will officiate
1SG (Ret) Akers passed away on Friday, January 25, 2019 in Lawton.
Alvin was born on August 25, 1945 in Appalachia, Virginia to Charlie and Mae Akers. Alvin grew up in Virginia and at seventeen, he joined the U.S. Army. Alvin did three tours in Vietnam for his valiant service he was awarded a purple heart and Bronze Star. After twenty plus years of service, he retired from the U.S. Army in 1983. After retiring, he remained in Lawton and began working for the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier. He worked for the USPS for twenty years. In his leisure time, he enjoyed woodworking and fishing.
He is survived by his daughters: Susan Osorio of Colorado Springs, CO and Patty Sewell and her husband David of Lawton, OK; His stepdaughters: Linda Allen of Lawton, OK and Sherry Chavez of Wichita, KS; his stepson, David Smith of Ponca City, OK; his brother Larry Akers of South Carolina; his Grandchildren: Brandi Sewell of Lawton, OK Megan Sewell of Lawton, OK, Keri Sewell of Lawton, OK, J.D. Osorio and his wife Lauren of Colorado Springs, CO and Taira Fountain of Lawton, OK; his great grandchildren: Sierra Sewell, Aleriah Sewell, Alannah Stewart, and Brandon Stewart, all of Lawton, OK.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Anna Akers; his second wife, Yon Sun Akers, and his Grandson Nico Osorio
