Tribute

Albert Henry McKenzie was born July 7, 1951 in Lawton, Oklahoma to Albert H. (Sr.) and Wynell McKenzie (Ketchum). He grew up in Lawton attending Will Rogers Elementary School and Central Junior High. He graduated from Fletcher High School in 1970.

In 1967 Albert meet the love of his life when Teresa Newsom moved in next door to his family. After 5 years of courtship, Albert and Teresa were married on June 16, 1972 at Central Baptist Church by Rev. Brad Allen. They kept their commitment and their love strong for over 50 years of marriage. Albert and Teresa had two sons, Shang and Chris, making their family complete and strong.

In the early 70's Albert was a police officer for the city of Lawton, participating in the Cadet program of the 1970's. During this time he made many friends who remain his friends today, especially Kevin Worchester, Billy Godfrey, and Randy Britton.

Albert changed professions and went to work at the Lawton Airport for Continental Airlines, later working for Frontier Airlines. This was the beginning of his career in the travel industry which provided him the opportunity to take his family on many amazing trips.

In 1984 Frontier Airlines moved Albert and his family to Jackson Hole, Wyoming where they learned to shovel snow, snow ski, and survive Cottonwood Creek. Albert was very proud that he could take his family to live in such a beautiful place.

When Frontier Airlines pulled out of Jackson Hole Albert brought his family home and went to work for Carlson Wagonlit Travel and eventually SATO on Fort Sill. He was very proud of his responsibility for moving the troops home at Christmas.

When Albert and his family moved back to Oklahoma he located property close to Medicine Park. When he and Teresa climbed over that fence for the very first time he knew he had found the perfect place to build his home and establish the McKenzie Family Farm.

After his retirement from the travel industry Albert went to work for ESP in Medicine Park as a Human Resource Director. He established Bert's Dirt and Tractor Works where he played a major role in building house pads and driveways for newly constructed home in the area. In the early 2000's Albert, Teresa, and many friends and family planted, in their backyard, Boulder Flats Vineyard, growing grapes that Albert used to produce good red wine.

Albert became a volunteer for the Medicine Park Fire Department, working closely with David McCoy to build a strong and dependable fire department for the city of Medicine Park. Albert proudly served as Assistant Fire Chief for the department for 25 years.

Through his life, Albert enjoyed fishing, hunting, and was an avid shooter and gun enthusiast. He loved his family, having pride in his sons and adoring his grandchildren. Albert will be greatly missed.
