Benito "Ben" L. Romeros

Funeral services for Benito “Ben” L. Romeros, 89, of Lawton, Oklahoma will be at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, Aug 24, 2019. All services will be overseen by the Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home and held in the Chapel.  His son, Jerry Ramos will officiate.

Mr. Romeros passed away on Tuesday, Aug 20, 2019 in Lawton, OK at the Lawton/Ft. Sill Veterans Center.

A special visitation will be held on Friday, Aug 23, 2019 from 6-8 p.m. at the Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home for all friends and family.  At 6 p.m., a Rosary will be officiated by the Chavez family of Lawton, Ok.

Mr. Romeros was born on October 10, 1929 in Hughes, AR to Ignacio and Anita (Urista) Romeros.  He attended school in Hughes, AR. Once Benito graduated from High School he joined the U.S. Army in 1948.  Mr. Romeros spent twenty-seven years in the Army.  During his time in the Army he served as an Infantryman who fought in the Korean War and as a member of Intelligence team 22 in Vietnam.  He received military education and training in Intelligence.  For his honorable service, he was awarded the following medals: The Legion of Merit, a Bronze Star and the Combat Infantry Badge.  Mr. Romeros said the highlight of his military career was when his unit was altered and equipped for movement to Cuba during the 1962 Cuba Missile crisis. Mr. Romeros retired from the Army in 1975 at Fort Sill, OK.  After retiring from the Army, he attended both Maryland and Cameron Universities.  He later attended carpentry school and worked for many years as a self-employed carpenter.  He then worked at Cameron University as a carpenter until his retirement from the University in 1992.  In his leisure time he enjoyed playing poker, shooting pool, fishing, woodworking, building furniture, reading western novels, and watching the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers on TV, but what he  enjoyed most of all was spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Reina of the home; his sons: Max Romeros and his wife Amy of Lawton, OK, Rex Romeros of Weslaco, TX and Jerry Ramos and his wife Lori of Lewisville, TX; his daughters: Roxie Romeros of Lawton, OK, Sabrina Muniz and her husband Phil of Lawton, Ok.  His daughter Reina Speegle and her husband Jimmy of Lawton, OK.  

Benito or Ben is what most called him, but those who loved him most called him POPO including his 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren who he adored with all his heart. 

He is preceded in death by his parents Ignacio and Anita (Urista) Romeros, his daughter: Elva Eladawi; his granddaughter: Tiffany Barton; his brothers: Jaime, Salome and Ignacio Romeros and his sisters: Norberta Garcia, Consuelo Mautner, and Eva Romeros.
