Billy Gene Baker

Memorial service for Billy Gene Baker, 88, of Grandfield, Oklahoma will be  held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 17, 2023 Gray Funeral Home Chapel, Grandfield, OK. 
 
Mr. Baker passed away on Friday, November 10th, 2023 at Evergreen Nursing Center in Burkburnett, Texas with his family at his side. 

Billy was born on September 29th, 1935 in Grandfield, OK to Rueban and Stella "Lula" (Bishop) Baker and grew up in the surrounding countryside. He attended school in Devol, Oklahoma. Billy married Lynda Jane Morton on November 19, 1955 in Grandfield where they built their life together. Mr. Baker held many jobs during his lifetime that included working for the town of Grandfield, Tillman County, helping to build the turnpike, farming, managing cotton gins, and owning a convenience store in Grandfield. Billy enjoyed training bird dogs and quail hunting. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing with friends and family and taking fishing trips. He had a great sense of humor and would lovingly joke with everyone. 

He is survived by his sons, Ricky Baker and Lewis Baker, both of Grandfield; daughters and son in law, Vicky Thompson, Lou Ann and Scott Gardner and Clara Jane Baker, all of Grandfield; grandchildren and their spouses, Rocky and Vaughnie Baker, Troy Baker, Raegan and Brian Teakell, Brandon and Josie Baker, Annie Baker and Toby, Dustin and Monica Thompson, and Lynsey Thompson; numerous great grandchildren; his brother in law, Roger Springer; and his nieces.  

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lynda; his parents; his brother, J.D. Baker; his sister in law, Neta Springer; two brothers in law, Richard Morton and spouse, Louise Morton and Roy Lynn Morton; and his nephew, Dicky Morton. 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice.
