David Eugene Hays

Graveside service for David Eugene Hays, 62, of Elgin, Oklahoma will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Highland Cemetery. 

Mr. Hays reached the final frontier on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at his home in Elgin after battling pancreatic cancer for over a year. 

Arrangements are under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. 

David was born on May 9, 1955 in Victorville, California to Carey "Gene" and Gloria (Chandler) Hays.  He grew up in Lawton and graduated from MacArthur High School in 1973. He received a degree from Cameron University in Electronics and worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber as a maintenance technician for 35 years before retiring in 2014. David married Patricia Joanne Manning on November 3, 1976 in Elgin, Oklahoma. David could fix anything and loved space and Sci-Fi and was a true Star Trek fan and was an aspiring astronaut. He enjoyed tending to his garden and practicing carpentry. David loved his family and they shared many family vacations making sure his family got to see America.      

He is survived by his wife, Patsy, of the home; two daughters, April Becerril, her husband, Jose', Sr., of Lawton and their children, Nahir, Alize', Jose', Jr., and Aisya, and Jennifer Walker, her husband, Matt, of Lawton, and children, Amaya and Zaylee; his brother, Steve Hays of Cary, North Carolina, and his daughter, Lauren Hays; his sister, Vikki Green and husband, Tim, of Felch, Michigan, and their children, Jason and Ryan; his sister in law and brother in law, Leslie and Richard Durham, of Elgin, OK, and their son, Bruce. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister in law, Carla Hays.
