Doris Jane Matney

Funeral Service for Doris Jane Matney, 93, of Lawton, OK will be on Wednesday July 11, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist East with Jim McGuire, pastor  officiating. Her grandson, Shawn Hall, will honor Doris with his gift of music. 

Burial will be at Flower Mound cemetery under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. 

Doris Jane Matney went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 9, 2018, at the age of 93. 

Doris was born August 28,1924, in Vernon, Texas to L.T. and Eunice Roller.   
She met and married the love of her life, Homer Matney in Vernon, Texas at the age of 19. After the ceremony, it was a few short days before Homer left to serve this great country in WWII.  Doris also helped with the war efforts by working in the war factories in Ft. Worth, Texas. After the war, Homer came home and continued to play baseball with the Los Angeles Dodger organization while Doris raised their three children. She was a stay at home Mother and later also became a wonderful Preacher’s wife when Homer surrendered to the ministry. They were married 72 years.  

She became a hairdresser in 1962. She worked in Beauty shops in Comanche, Oklahoma and Vernon, Texas, where she owned her own shop. 
She enjoyed being a Preacher’s wife, hairdresser  and was very good at crafts.  
Doris was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great Great Grandmother. They loved Doris’s wonderful cooking.  She did whatever it took to spoil the grandchildren! She served in Vacation Bible Schools for over 50 years and was active in WMU.
  
Survivors include:  Her two sons: Ronnie Matney of Natchitoches, Louisiana, and  Donnie Matney of Rattan, Oklahoma.  Her daughter and son in law, Connie and Darrell Jones of Lawton.  She has 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Doris also had many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. 
She resided in the Ten Oaks Place for the past several years. Doris loved the ones who cared for her and they became her extended family.

Preceding Doris in death were her husband, Homer Matney, her Mother and Father and her Sister, Dorothy Mowrey.
