Dorothy Mae (Woodbury) Jenkins was born on 12-31-1942 and passed away on 9-23-2020.
A Memorial Service will be held on October 12, 2020 at Timber Creek Fellowship Church 2800 W. Indian Hills Rd., Norman, OK at 10:00 am. Masks are highly encouraged.
Dorothy was born in Clinton, OK and she graduated from Enid High School. Dorothy had served the labor movement in Oklahoma for over 40 years. She became a union member with Communication Workers of American Local 6001 in 1964. In 1968, Dorothy joined the International Association of Machinists Union Local 898 after starting work at Vance Air Force Base in the Officer’s Quarters office. During that time, she worked on the Organizing Committee.
Dorothy was the Secretary/Treasurer of the Garfield County Labor Council from 1969 through 1971.
In 1971, Dorothy moved to Moore, OK and quickly became involved in politics with the Oklahoma AFL-CIO and the Central Oklahoma Labor Council. She was also was active in the Cleveland County Democratic Party where she served as Chair in 1977 and again in 1989. She was Co-Chair from 1991 through 1999.
In 1977, Dorothy became a member of Communication Workers of America Local 6016 until her retirement in 2001. During her tenue with CWA 6016, she held the positions of Shop Steward, Vice President and was the Legislative Director for several years.
Dorothy served on the Oklahoma AFL-CIO Executive Board from 1976 to 2001 and served as Trustee from 1991 to 2001.
Dorothy was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone/AT&T from 1977 to 1999.
Dorothy had put countless hours and driven never-ending miles to serve her community, never looking back, only ahead to improve the lives of Oklahomans.
Dorothy had received many awards through the years but one of her proudest moments was when she was inducted into the Oklahoma State AFL-CIO Labor Hall of Fame on October 8, 2015.
After her retirement in 1999, Dorothy went to work for the Oklahoma State Senate as the Senate Operator, working from October 4, 1999 until her death. Dorothy was a beloved member of the Senate family always willing to help-out in any way always going above and beyond with a smile. Dorothy loved, and was known for, providing snacks and candy for everyone and she always kept Animal Cracker jars full for the Senate Pages. She was lovingly known as the Voice of the Oklahoma State Senate.
At the time of her death Dorothy was a member of Timber Creek Fellowship in Norman, OK and loved her church, church family and was a prayer warrior for all.
Dorothy was an avid OU and NASCAR fan and would have two TV’s on so that she could watch both at same time.
She is survived by her Granddaughter, Jenny Lester & her husband Brett of Prue, OK, her aunt, Marie Woodbury of Enid, her cousins Linda Woodbury Fillwock and spouse Dennis, Jane Grooms, her beloved fur baby, Andy & a host of many friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, Randall Anthony Jenkins, her parents, Hazel and Wayne Trent and her adopted parents, Russell and Jessie Woodbury.
