Funeral service for Erika Fitzgerald, 94, of Lawton will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at Bible Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Weger officiating.
Mrs. Fitzgerald passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024 at her home in Lawton.
Burial will follow at Post Cemetery, Fort Sill, Oklahoma under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.
Viewing will be held on Monday, February 26, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a special viewing and visitation for family and friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. that evening and viewing on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at all at the funeral home.
Erika was born on October 24, 1929 in Schlierbach, Germany to Philipp and Katharina (Diehl) Fleckenstein. She grew up in Germany where she attended school. Erika married a young army soldier, Earl Fitzgerald and the military brought them to Lawton with tours returning them Germany and home again to Oklahoma where they remained after Mr. Fitzgerald's retirement from the Army. Earl Fitzgerald passed away on July 7, 1970. Erika worked for over 27 years at Southwestern Medical Center in the housekeeping department before retiring in the late 1990's. After retirement, she enjoyed being at home with her family. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church for over 50 years where she took her children and grew her faith with the Lord.
She is survived by 9 children and their spouses, Linda Fitzgerald, of Germany, Cindy Fitzgerald, of Lawton, OK; Alfred and Shirley Fitzgerald, of Edmond, OK, Robert and Jessie Fitzgerald, of Lawton, OK, Barry and Lindy Fitzgerald, of Elgin, OK, Tommy Fitzgerald, of Lawton, OK, Donna and Darrell Gayski, Jr., of Moore, OK, Jimmy and Annie Fitzgerald, of Moore, OK, and Johnny and DonnaJo Fitzgerald, of Moore, OK; her sister, Lisa Dieder, of Germany; 18 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; three great great great grandchildren; and her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl Fitzgerald; her brother, Alfred Fleckenstein; and her sister, Magda Muhl.
