Memorial service for Gary Lynn "Butch" Melton, 71 of Lawton will be at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Melton fought a long and courageous battle with cancer before passing away on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at his home in Lawton, surrounded by his loving family.

Inurnment will follow at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, Oklahoma. 
Butch was born on January 21, 1946 in Visalia, California to Buster and Dorothy (Stafford) Melton. The family moved to Lawton and Butch attended Bowman's Kindergarten, Wilson Elementary School, Tomlinson Junior High School and graduated from Lawton High School. He then attended Cameron College and later attended the Foreign Language School in Washington, D.C. Butch served his country in the United States Army from October 28, 1968 until October 27, 1970. He was stationed in Vietnam and received many awards and medals including the Purple Heart, three Bronze Stars, four Army Commendation Medals with one for Valor, Combat Infantry Badge, American Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Rifle Expert, .45 Pistol Expert, and Unit Citations. After the military, he worked as a journey Carpenter for the family business, B.W. Melton Construction in Lawton. He also worked for Ken Hall Brick, Lawton, John Deere, in Frederick, and in car sales for Milo Gordon. Butch married Deborah Ann Melton on June 27, 1974. Butch loved his life, his family, was so proud of his son, Shayne, and adored his grandchildren, Seth and Wyatt. He was a Junior member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Home Builders Association, and the Disabled American Veterans.  

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Deborah Melton, of the home; his son an daughter in law, Shayne Michael and Missie Melton, of Chickasha; his grandchildren, Seth Melton and Wyatt Melton; brothers, Bill Melton and Bill Davenport; sister, Judy Davis; his brothers in law and sister in law, James Wilson, Gary and Gail Wilson, Wayne and Judy Wilson, Donald and Toni Wilson, Melba and Donald Mahaffay, and Jean and Michael Peace. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Buster and Dorothy Melton; brother, Donald Melton; and mother and father in law, Herman and Blanche Wilson. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Judes Children's Research Hospital at 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
