Funeral service for Gerald Wayne Whitehead, 76 of Lawton will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel with Matthew McGee officiating.

Mr. Whitehead passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2019 in Lawton.

Burial with full military honors will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.  

Gerald was born on October 3, 1942 in Mountain Park, Oklahoma to Willis and Dora (Carson) Whitehead. He grew up in Mountain Park until the family moved to Lawton when Gerald was a teenager. He joined the United States Army in 1960 and received many awards and medals including: The National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, (4th Award), Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Leaf and the Army Commendation Medal. Gerald retired in 1981 after 21 years of dedicated service to his country. After retiring from the military, he worked for awhile at Sears before owning and operating G & M Auto Salvage and Wrecker Service in Lawton. Gerald married Maria Luedtke on July 8, 1994 in Lawton. He enjoyed fishing, shooting pool and playing darts. Gerald will be missed by his loving family and friends. 

He is survived by his wife, Maria, of the home; his sons and daughter in law, Raymond and Katherine Whitehead, and Ricky Chavana, all of Lawton; his daughters and sons in law, Sherry and Michael Wallace, of Mustang, OK, Patricia and Kevin Barry, of Oklahoma City, OK, Kaethe and Thomas Hayslip, of Mountain Park, OK, Chrystal Buckley, of Lawton, and Sylvia Chavana, of Ponca City, OK; he is also survived by Carmen, Karen and Ricardo, who are children of his heart; his brothers and sisters in law, Billy Joe and Pat Whitehead, of Augusta, GA, Timothy and Sylvia Whitehead, of Greenville, TN, and Harold Whitehead, of Lawton; his sister, Carolyn Whitehead, of Canada; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Gerald Wayne Whitehead, Jr.; sister, Carol Sue Elrod, his infant sister, May Whitehead; and his brother, Ralph Whitehead.
