Helen Louise Dittsworth

Memorial service for Helen Louise Dittsworth, 95 of Lawton will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel. 

Burial will be at Post Cemetery, Fort Sill, Oklahoma. 

Mrs. Dittsworth passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 in Lawton.

Helen was born on November 18, 1924 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Earl and Ruth (Peterson) Huff. She married William "Bill" Howard Dittsworth on May 2, 1947. Bill was in the army and during his career the family lived in many places in the U.S. and twice in Germany. They settled in Lawton upon Bill's retirement in 1966. He passed away on February 14, 1996. Helen loved life and never met a stranger. She often told stories of her childhood in Pittsburgh. Helen loved her country and being a wife and mother to the military. Her husband and sons were all veterans. She is a double honor flag recipient and was an expert in flag etiquette. Helen had many interests. She was an avid quilter and crocheter, making many quilts and afghans for family and friends including laptop quilts for The Lawton/Fort Sill Veteran's Center residents. She loved animals and donated regularly to animal protection organizations. She taught herself to play the piano. Helen loved poetry and could recite poems learned as a child. 

She is survived by two sons and a daughter in law, William H. "Bill"  Dittsworth, Jr. and wife, Cora, of Chickasha, OK and Donald Dittsworth, of Lawton, OK; two brothers and a sister in law, Richard and Clare Huff, of Pennsylvania and Ronald Huff, of Florida; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Ruth Huff; her husband, William "Bill" Dittsworth, Sr.; her son, Thomas Dittsworth; her sister, Mary Anna (Huff) Shaude; and her brother, Earl "Rusty" Huff, Jr. (Korean MIA).
