Iva L Black

Graveside service for Iva L. Black, 89, of Lawton will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 28, 2019 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Don Barnes pastor and Gary Pratt, associate pastor of First Assembly of God officiating.

Mrs. Black passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019 in Lawton.

Arrangements are under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. 

Iva was born on December 3, 1929 in Carnegie, Oklahoma to Robert Lincoln and Loy Estelle (Willis) Mills. She grew up in the Carnegie area where she graduated from high school. She married Lindy Black on August 7, 1948 in Wichita Falls, Texas and they lived in many small Oklahoma towns including Anadarko, Carnegie, Rush Springs, Chickasha, and Lawton. The family settled in Lawton in 1962 where they remained. Lindy passed away on November 3, 2010. Iva was a cosmetologist and begin working for Mercer's Beauty Supply and Wigs in 1969. In 1990, she became the owner and operated the business until her retirement in December of 2013. She also partnered with her daughter at Sun Kissed Tans. Iva was a member of Lawton First Assembly and loved her church and family.

She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Bohlender, of Lawton, OK; her grandchildren, Stace Bohlender, Adrienne Harness and husband, Grant, and Rachel Guerra and husband, Hector; her great granddaughters, Madelyn Bohlender and Victoria Lindy Guerra; and numerous nieces, nephews, and their families.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lindy Black;  her son and daughter in law, Gerry Lynn and Barbara Black; and her brothers and sisters, Leo, Delbert, Don, Ina Mae, Roberta, Eula Faye, and Wanda.
