Jan passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at his home in Cache.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.
He was born on June 22, 1964 in Rochester, New York to Annette and Jack Hancosky. He later moved to Lawton with his mother in 1970 due to a visit to his uncle at Fort Sill. His mother was a registered nurse at Comanche County Memorial Hospital where she met and married Larry Kissick. Jan attended Woodland Hills Elementary School, Cache Junior High School and graduated from Eisenhower High School. While at Eisenhower, he discovered the love of his life, Acting. He was active in the drama department and also acted in plays. After high school, he enrolled at Cameron and majored in Theater. After his third semester, he transferred to Northeastern Oklahoma State University at Tahlequah where he excelled in academics and drama for a semester. During that time he drove to Dallas to audition for a spot at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. He was accepted to the first year and did well enough to be accepted as one of 40 to return the second year and again was accepted as one of only 15 for a third year. He spent several more years in New York City going on auditions. He lived at the YMCA and shared small apartments with friends. Jan got a leading role in a play for a major regional theater in Upstate New York. Jan was born with Cerebral Palsy that mainly affected his leg muscles. Although Jan never complained but this is probably what held him back. For his day job, he waited tables and bartended at the Broadway Theaters. He came home and worked as a bartender where he made lots of friends. (He didn't have customers, he had friends.) He loved people. Jan quit bartending and was working on his real estate license when he passed away. He died in his sleep of heart failure. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Annette Fox- Kissick.
He is survived by his daughter, Evelyn Isabella Kissick, of Skiatook, Oklahoma; his dad, Larry Kissick, of the home; his step daughter, Rhiannon Eads; aunts, Judy Fox- Stewart and Betsy Kissick-Albury and husband, Stan; uncles, Jack Fox and his wife, Ingrid, John Kissick and his wife, Metch, Tommy Kissick, Neil Kissick, Jr. and his wife, Lori, his cousins, Stephanie Manning, Carol, and Rouvee; and a host of loving friends including his best friend, who he considered a brother, Andre Brooks.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lawton Community Theater at 1316 NW Bell Ave, Lawton, Oklahoma 73507.
