JoAnn Louise Stearns

A celebration of Life service for JoAnn Louise Greacen Stearns, 77, will be at First Baptist East on Thursday, September 19, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. 
Mrs. Stearns passed away September, 16, 2019  in Lawton, Oklahoma, surrounded by her loving husband of 50 years, Larry Stearns and her two daughters, Laura and Joni.  
JoAnn was born on April, 22, 1942 in San Diego, CA., to Richard F. Greacen and Loretta E. Zentz Greacen.  She graduated from Point Loma High School 1959.  She was a loving mother to Laura and Joni and doted on her five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. They were the loves of her life.  She spent countless hours over the summers playing in the pool, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren.   
JoAnn loved growing up near the ocean and spending time with her lifelong friends, Kay, DeeGee, and Phyllis.  She was an avid animal lover and knew her mission in life was to care for animals. Over the years she rescued numerous animals to include dogs, cats, birds, fish, hamsters, and the occasional house spider captured in the green butter dish and released outside!  She was an equestrian who enjoyed long trail rides and endless time with her horses.  
She retired from Ft. Sill, OK, MWR as a management analyst.  JoAnn was an active member in her church, First Baptist East.  She is survived by her husband, Larry of the home, daughters, Laura Phipps, of Clarksville, TN., and Joni Bown (Tony), of Stafford, VA.  Grandchildren, Maran Phipps Fairleigh (Shawn), Bryce Phipps, Brayden Bown, Sarabeth Bown, Emmaleigh Bown.  Great-grandchildren, Addison Fairleigh and Jameson Fairleigh.  
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association at 2123 N. Classen Blvd, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73106 or the Humane Society of Lawton-Comanche County at PO Box 3134, Lawton, Oklahoma 73502.   
Per JoAnn’s wishes, her ashes will be spread over the Pacific Ocean near her childhood home at a later date.
