Jody was born on March 31, 1957 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Frisco and Clara Jane (Knudsen) Petersen. Her early years were spent near Pumpkin Center, South Dakota. She came to Lawton in the early 1980's and worked at American States Insurance while also working at Kirks Emergency Service as an EMT.
