Joretta Serrena Rodgers

Memorial service for Joretta Serrena Rodgers, 71, of Lawton will be held at 12:00 p.m., January 25, 2022 at Greater Zion Apostolic Church, Florence, South Carolina.

Ms. Rodgers passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2022 in Lawton.

Joretta was born on March 18, 1950 in Bishopville, South Carolina to Junior and Ruby Lee (McCollough) Patterson. After high school, she lived in Larmar, South Carolina  and married James Rodgers. Joretta worked several jobs in her life including Sarah Lee for 22 years, Craig Industrial for two years, babysitting for 10 years, and baking for many residents in the town of Lamar, SC. While in Lawton she attended Goodwill Adult Center for 3 years. She served her church faithfully, lived a good faithful life, and was an amazing and loving mother, sister, daughter, niece, aunt, cousin, mother in law, and friend. She enjoyed gospel and spiritual music and loved to sing and cook and spend time babysitting. She loved all of her children and grandchildren and loved to praise the Lord. Joretta moved to Lawton in 2012 to be near her daughter and son in law, Sharon and Jerry.

She is survived by her daughters and son in law, Sharon and Jerry Burks, Sr, of Lawton, OK and Denise Johnson, of Lamar, SC; her siblings and their spouses, Deloris and Otis McDaniels, Corine and Larry McCollough, James and Mannlyn Patterson, Howard and Elizabeth Patterson, Henry and Charlotte Patterson, and Leroy and Martha Patterson; her grandchildren, Zytia Miller and husband, Lester of Lawton, OK, Michael Quintel Abson, and TiQuesha Johnson of Lamar, South Carolina; her great grandchildren, Michael McFadden, Jr, Jordan Brown, Messiah Rouse, all of Lamar, South Carolina and Logan Abson-Miller, of Lawton, OK; a very special niece, Latonya Knotts and husband, Phillip of Lamar, South Carolina; and a host of nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, James; her siblings, Freddie Patterson, Evette Patterson, and Thomas Patterson; and her parents, Junior and Ruby Lee (McCollough) Patterson.
