Tribute

Funeral service for Jose Angel Santiago, 78, of Lawton, Oklahoma will be held at 12:30 p.m., Monday, June 27th, 2022 at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Jim Roberts officiating.

Visitation and viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2022 and Sunday, June 26, 2022 at the funeral home.

Services are under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Lawton, Oklahoma.

Jose was born April 16, 1944 in Coamo, Puerto Rico to Narciso and Justina (Fuentes) Santiago where he grew up and attended school.  He met his wife Aida in 1965 in New York City.  In 1967 he went to Vietnam and was later awarded a Purple Heart for his service.  On June 21, 1969 he married Aida and they began their life together.  He reenlisted in the Army in 1974 and began a twenty year career of service.  He retired from the Army in 1994 and worked in Lawton in food service and dietary management for various retirement communities: Ten Oaks, Brookridge, The Village on Lee and the V.A. Center as well at the Lawton Country Club.  He had a reputation for maintaining high standards for cooking and management and was sought after for his skills.  Jose was passionate about cooking and enjoyed cooking for others.  He also loved music, watching baseball and gardening.  He was very generous with his friends and family and even a stranger in need.  

Jose is survived by his loving wife Aida Santiago of the home; children Reynaldo Santiago of Lawton, OK, Christina Santiago of Oklahoma City, OK; brother Edwin Santiago and wife Gloria; sisters Margarita Santiago, Marta Santiago, Lydia Santiago, and Milagros Santiago; plus a host of other loving family and friends.  

Mr. Santiago was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Victor Santiago, Ruben Santiago and Wilfredo Santiago.
