Kenneth Doyle Taylor

Funeral service for Kenneth Doyle Taylor, 72 of Elgin will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday December 15, 2017 at Great Plains Technology Center with Ordean Nelson, minister of Paradise Valley Church officiating. 

Burial will be at Chattanooga Cemetery, under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. 
 
Mr. Taylor passed away on Friday, December 8th, 2017, in Elgin, Oklahoma.

There will be a special viewing and visitation for family and friends on Thursday, December 14, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. 

Kenneth was born on February 2nd, 1945 in Frederick, OK  to Howard and Della Mae ( Grimes) Taylor.  He spent most of his life in Southwestern Oklahoma.  He graduated from Chattanooga High School in 1963, received his Bachelor Degree of Science in Education at Southeastern University and went on to receive a Master of Science degree from Oklahoma State University in 1980.  Ken took pride in his work as an Educator and Campus Director for Great Plains Technology Center for 36 years and cherished the life-long friendships he made there.  He exhibited leadership when he came into a room, and was personally invested in instilling a sense of integrity and respect into the minds of his students, colleagues and family. He served for over 20 years at the Edgewater Park and Chattanooga volunteer fire departments.  Ken was a devout Christian and Deacon at Paradise Valley Church and a  dedicated, loving father, husband and Papa to his family. He loved his church and became FEMA certified because he enjoyed serving others.  Kenneth was happily married to his first wife Lorinda (Daley) Taylor for 30 years until she lost her battle with cancer.  He loved having a life partner and companion and shared with many his prayers to not live alone.  In 1995 he met his current wife Kay (Etheridge) Taylor of 22 years.    He enjoyed carpentry and constructed every cabinet in the home he built for Kay and himself and served as construction foreman on the “Extreme Makeover” TV show when they sponsored a veteran from Lawton.  He demonstrated perfection while refurbishing old cars and tractors and took pride in owning red Chevy trucks and John Deer tractors.  Ken was loved and respected by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed. 

He is survived by his wife, Kay Taylor, of the home; son Bobby Taylor (Caroline) of Edmond; daughters and sons in law , Teresa (Freda)Thomas (Darren) of Tulsa, Kacey Boothe (Mark) of Edmond, Angela McMurry (Gary) of Brock, Texas, and Amanda Rhoads of Moore; sister Georgia Shaw Bartholomew, of Chattanooga; two brothers in law and best friends, Doyle Etheridge (Kathy) of Lawton and Lynn Etheridge (Brenda) of Duncan; 15 grandchildren; and a host of extended friends and family.  

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Lorinda Taylor; and sister Melba Wood.
