Larry James Keen, 68, of Grandfield, Oklahoma, passed away Monday, November 6, 2017, in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 9, 2017, at the First Baptist Church, Grandfield, with Rev. Micky Miller, pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in the Grandfield Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Gray Funeral Home, Grandfield, OK.

There will be a visitation for family and friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at Gray Funeral Home.

Larry James Keen was born at Longino Hospital in Sulphur Springs, TX, on May 1, 1949. He was the oldest of five children. Larry graduated from Wichita Falls Hirschi High School in 1967. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Arts and Technology from Tarleton State University in Stephenville, TX, in 1973. Larry played tennis there during his freshman year and was NAIA District IV doubles champion and semi-finalist in singles in 1968.

After graduation, he worked in the sheet metal trade in the Wichita Falls and Dallas/Ft. Worth areas until he started teaching at Barwise Jr. High in Wichita Falls in 1975.  Larry served there for four years until he resigned in 1979 and returned to work in the sheet metal trade for six more years. He returned to teaching at Kirby Jr. High in 1985 and remained there for 26 years, until his retirement from Wichita Fall ISD in May of 2011. Larry married Paula Joyce Bowman March 16, 1985, in Wichita Falls, TX.  He also took part time jobs working grounds and building maintenance at First State Bank and First Baptist Church in Grandfield for many years. He also owned and operated a yard care business from 1998 to 2015.

Larry was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grandfield, OK. He did volunteer work at various times during his life, including 10 years in Boy Scouts in Wichita Falls and 10 seasons as a summer Baseball coach in Grandfield.  Larry served two terms on the Grandfield City Council.

He is survived by Paula Joyce, his wife of 32 years; his mother, Mattie Jane Harrison Keen; a sister, Kandy Garcia, and husband Abraham of Tioga, TX; two sons, Andrew James Keen of Grandfield, OK, and Adam Jeffrey Keen and wife, Mary, of Logan, Utah; twin grandsons, Brody Adam Keen and Beau Abel Keen of Logan, Utah; nieces and nephews, including James Russell Keen of Wichita Falls, TX, Alyssa Kay Williamson and husband, Travis, of Burleson, TX, Alexis Victoria Garcia of Tioga, TX,  Jeff Timms and wife, Aimee, of Grandfield,  Randy Timms of Grandfield, Todd Josefy of Wichita Falls, Tyler Josefy and wife, Lillian,  of Wichita Falls,  Amanda Golden and husband, Jonathon, of Geronimo, OK, Brandon Bowman of Crowell, TX, Michael Bowman and wife, Tally, of Crowell, TX, Crystal Williams of Duncan, OK, and Gary Bowman and wife, Donna, of Denton, TX.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, James Lester Keen; two brothers,  David Wayne Keen and Jerry Paul Keen; and an infant sister, Sandy Kay Keen.

Memorials may be made to Grandfield First Baptist Church, Grandfield Fire Department, Grandfield Ambulance, or Grandfield Senior Citizens.
