Lorena (Hayes) Choate

Memorial service for Lorena Hayes Choate, 96, of Stratford, Oklahoma will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at the Stratford First United Methodist Church in Stratford, Oklahoma. 

Burial will follow at Letitia Cemetery, Lawton, Oklahoma at 3:00 p.m. under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.

Mrs. Choate passed away on Friday, March 22, 2019 in Ada, Oklahoma. 

Lorena was born on August 10, 1922 in Checotah, Oklahoma to Herbert and Beulah (Emerson) Hayes. She grew up in Checotah where she attended school. She Married Delmar Choate in 1941 and they lived in Lawton for many years before Delmar passed away in 2001. She spent her early adult years raising her two sons, baking, cooking, and tending her flowers. She was active in several Lawton area woman's clubs and bowling leagues. She valued God, Family, Church, Flowers and People.   At the age of 50, she attended Cameron University and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and then taught school in Lawton for about 15 years.     

She is survived by two sons and daughters in law, Howard and Lindy Choate, of Rowlette, TX and Larry and Catharine Choate, of Stratford, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren and their spouses: Julie Stockenberg, Melissa Brewer, Jim Choate, Bob Choate, Leslie Choate, Lisa Dunn,  and Tanja Godlewski; 15 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews that she cared for.    

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Delmar M. Choate; and her brother, Bill Hayes.
