Michael Alan Tate

Funeral mass for Michael Alan Tate, 70, of Lawton will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 22, 2024 at St. Ann's Catholic Church with Rev. Linh Bui officiating.

Mr. Tate passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at his home in Lawton.

Burial will be held at St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Elgin, OK under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral home. 

Viewing will he held on Sunday from 3:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Wake by Deacon Tom Biles at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at the funeral home.  

Mike was born to Paul and Leora Tate on February 28, 1954, in Lawton, OK and graduated from Lawton High School in 1972. He began his career as Marvelous Mike at Mike’s Pawn Shop where he met the love of life, Meta Lenhardt nextdoor at Lenhardt’s Laundry. He continued being a salesman throughout his entire life. He traveled all over southwest Oklahoma selling paper goods. Mike was known for his larger than life personality and his ability to never meet a stranger. He was a Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite, and a proud Shriner Clown known as Teddy Bear. He was an avid marksman, fisherman, and overall outdoorsman. He loved everyone he met and will be missed by all. 

Survivors include his wife, Meta; his daughter, Mikal and husband Quinton Tews; a special niece who was like a daughter, Megan and husband Kent, daughter Makenzie Veldhuizen; along with numerous nieces and nephews, and other family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Paul and Leora Tate, two brothers, Paul and Don Tate, one sister, Paula Franklin. He was also preceded in death by his in-laws, Herman Sr. and Bernie Lenhardt.
