Myron Gerald McChurin

Myron Gerald McChurin was born on May 18, 1931 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Richard Ray McChurin and Muriel Louise Barr. He Graduated from West High School in Salt Lake City in 1949.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and served in the Active Army reserves for 16 years and finished with the highest rank of 1st Lt.

He married Vera Mae Wich of Lawton, OK in Wichita Falls, Texas on April 22, 1950 and was blessed to be together with her for 62 years. They had four children: Phyllisanne, Marie Lucille, Marvin Phillip, and Michael Paul.

Myron was raised in and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, his love for genealogy and family history work began as a young teenager and was a life-long work. He served as Bishop of the Lawton First Ward from 1977-1979, on the Lawton Stake High Council and Lawton OK Stake Patriarch for 22 years and a number of other callings. 

He was a member of the Rotary International, an active member in the Greater Lawton Rotary Club, which membership began in July of 1969.

He was preceded in death by his parents (stepfather) Daniel Robert Mellen and Muriel Louise (Barr); a half brother, Robert Daniel Mellen of Salt Lake City, Utah; his wife Vera of Lawton, OK; their oldest daughter Phyllisanne Costiloe of Fresno, CA; and a granddaughter Amy Carter of San Jose, CA.

He is survived by his daughter Marie Lucille Callahan and husband of Potosi, MO; a son, Marvin Phillip McChurin, of Muskogee, OK; a son, Michael Paul McChurin and wife of Afton, OK; 8 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren, and 6 Great Great Grandchildren.
