Peggy passed away Monday, February 11, 2019 in Henryetta, Oklahoma. Burial will be at the Walters Cemetery in Walters, Oklahoma.

Peggy was born in Enid, Oklahoma on November 30, 1929 to Joseph Vernon and Bivin Inez (Cooper) Speir. She attended Devol, Oklahoma school from 1st through 12th grades. She was born-again and became a member of the First Baptist Church at an early age. On her eighteenth birthday she married Ralph Eugene Glandon and to this union three sons were born Michael (Mike) Ralph, Mark Eugene and their third son, Joe Ed, only lived three days. She was divorced after sixteen years of marriage and Mike and Mark continued to attend school in Burkburnett, Texas until their graduation from high school.

After the boys had finished high school she moved to Washington D.C. to work in the Pentagon for two years and then transferred overseas to Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines for two years. Returning to the States she was assigned to McAlester Army Ammunition Depot, McAlester, Oklahoma in which she retired from a number of years later.

She married Jack Ward Smith on February 14, 1971 and they lived on his ranch on Red Hill in Hanna, Oklahoma for over forty years. She continued to live there after his death on May 31, 2010. She moved to Crystal Springs Retirement Apartments, Henryetta, Oklahoma in September 2015 where she lived until her passing. She authored three published books; "Say Uncle," "Clay Mistress" and "Over the Fence" in which she published when she was eighty-six years young.

She enjoyed building her house and adding onto it. She never threw anything away because “I may need it someday.” She was boisterous and fun. She never met a stranger. She was giving of her time and money whenever she saw a need. She loved cornbread and milk, Dr Peppers, buttermilk, and any kind of sweets. Although she didn’t enjoy cooking, she “wouldn’t want anyone to go away hungry.” She was a hard worker and a go getter. She always kept her word. Peggy told you like it was and you never wondered what she was thinking. She would always answer the phone with a “Hello and praise the Lord!” She was beautiful inside and out!

Her grandchildren will always remember the rock she found that looked like it had an ugly face on it and became known as the ugly rock. It was used for discipline when Heath and Cheala stayed with her each summer while growing up. When they disobeyed, they had to sit on the ugly rock until told they could get up again.

Peggy loved children and would think of unique ways to show her grandkids just how much. One day, a surprise birdie showed up and when her grandchildren were coming down the driveway, they would look for the ribbon tied in the tree where the surprise birdie left a gift. They would rush out of the car to find it and with excitement bring it to their Granny to show her what the birdie brought them. The tradition continued with her great grandchildren until one day the birdie disappeared and “Granny” said it flew away (because as she aged she couldn’t keep up with that birdie anymore).

She is survived by her son: Mark Eugene Glandon and wife Nancy of Argyle, TX; sister: Lorita (Speir) Browning and husband Jerry of Devol, OK; three grandchildren: Michael Bryan Glandon and wife Kiyeon of Belton, Texas; Heath Courtenay Glandon and wife Michelle of Dunedin, FL; Cheala Ann Bigott and husband Brian of Hanna, OK; and eleven great grandchildren: Kiara Kim Glandon of Bryan College Station; Nicholas Wade Bigott of Gold Canyon, AZ; Marissa Gail, Madeline Rose, Connor Michael, Nate Cooper, and Aidan Keith Bigott all of Hanna, OK; David Courtenay, Joshua Courtenay, Sara Michelle, and Rebecca Michelle Glandon all of Dunedin, FL. Her family was extended when her son Mike married Tonya (aka Barney) and added even more grandchildren; Chad Henderson and wife Crystal of Fort Gibson, OK and their four children, Erik Henderson and wife Carrie of Sapulpa, OK and their 3 children, and Shawna Hutchison and husband Don of Mansfield, TX and their daughter. She was preceded in death by her husband: Jack Smith; sons: Mike Glandon and Joe Ed Glandon; parents: Vernon and Inez Speir; sister: Patricia Ann (Speir) White; brothers: Richard Lynn Speir and Vernon K.
