Rhonda was born on December 4, 1939 in Oklahoma City to Carl Earl and Ella Elizabeth (Petty) Good. The family moved to Lawton when Rhonda was a small child. After graduating from Lawton High School, she began her career with the US Government working civil service for the Social Security Administration. She married the love of her life, James C. "Jim" Norris, on September 6, 1958 in Lawton. After just three dates, they knew they had something special. Although there were doubters that the union would last long, they loved each other as much 60 years later as they did the day they married. They soon added a daughter, Rebecca (Becky) and a son, James Jr (Jamie) to their family. After 31 years with civil service, Rhonda retired to care for her grandchildren. She said many times what a wonderful time of her life that was. She had worked outside of the home when her own children were small, so she thoroughly enjoyed getting to spend so much time with her two local grandchildren. She and Jim went to see their out-of-town grandchildren as much as possible. Rhonda was a woman of very strong faith and spent time every single day in God’s Word. She had scriptures taped up around her home and was always eager to learn more. She loved the old hymns and also contemporary worship music. Rhonda was a 50+ year member of First Christian Church and later became a member of Carriage Hills Christian Church, where she attended every Sunday and Wednesday. She often said that the Wednesday Bible studies at Carriage Hills were her favorite. Rhonda had a great love of animals and had many beloved pets throughout the years. She was a voracious reader and also enjoyed watching regional sports teams play. She and Jim enjoyed many hours watching old movies and sitcoms together. They enjoyed camping, especially at Lake Lawtonka where she could read peacefully with Mt. Scott in her peripherals. She embraced technology and loved keeping tabs on all of her family, near and far, via email, text, and Facebook, on her many gadgets. She was generous and kind, a true servant of God, a wonderful wife and mother and grandmother and friend, and she will be greatly missed.
Rhonda is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, James C. Norris, Sr. of the home; her daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Randy Herring, of Lawton; her son and daughter-in-law, James C., Jr. and Kelli Norris, of Edmond; her grandchildren George and his wife Jenny Day, Tiffany Norris, Brian Herring, Amy Herring, Alexis Pendarvis, Morgan Norris, and her "adopted" granddaughter Mary Cook; her great grandchildren Lillian Day and Charles Day; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a host of loving friends including her very best friend, Barbara Hearn.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister and brother-in-law, Carlene and Raymond "Joe" Henson.
