Tribute

A private family graveside service for Ruby Horne, 95, of Indiahoma, OK will be held at Post Cemetery, Fort Sill, OK.  

Mrs. Horne passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at her home in Indiahoma. 

Arrangements are under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.

Viewing will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a special viewing and visitation for family and friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. 

Ruby was born on January 21, 1929 in Little River County, Arkansas to Ben and Hattie (Powers) Sanders. She grew up in Arkansas and attended school in Foreman, Arkansas. Ruby married Alfred H. Horne on July 14, 1947 in Ashdown, Arkansas as Mr. Horne was serving in the United States Army. They lived in several states and came to the Lawton/Fort Sill area in 1960 where they made their home for many years. Ruby attended nursing school at Memorial Hospital and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked for Great Plains Orthopedics Office for 23 years before retiring.  Mr. Horne passed away on May 28, 1999 after 52 years of marriage. Ruby was a member of Northwest Church of Christ for many years and also was a volunteer at the Center of Creative Living where she quilted. In 2014, Mrs. Horne moved to Indiahoma to be near her daughter and became a member of the Cache Church of Christ.    


She is survived by her daughters and son in law, Phyllis Mahaffay, of Indiahoma, OK and Carla and Mike Winn, of Edmond, OK; two sisters, Edith Byers, of Hallsville, TX and Joann Stringfellow, of Horatio, AR; five grandchildren and spouses, Michael Mahaffay II and Melissa, Deanna Adamson and Mark Marsh, Shannon and Phillip Johnson, Joey and Suzanne Winn, and David and Amanda Winn; her great grandchildren and spouses, Lacie Adamson and Justin McDaniel, Blake and Gabby Adamson, Alyssa Mahaffay, Jalen Johnson, Jaxon Winn, Eli Winn, Ella Grace Winn, and Lanie Winn; 8 great great grandchildren, Braxton, Priscella, Nicholas, Trent, Clara, Violet, Cooper, and Chance; and many nieces and nephews. 

She is preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Alfred Horne; her son in law, Michael Mahaffay; six brothers; and seven sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cache Church of Christ Benevolent Fund at 100 S. 8th Street, Cache, OK 73527.
