Funeral service for SFC (ret) Raymond R. Hornbeck, 77, of Lawton will be at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, November 30, 2018 at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Hornbeck passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2018 in Lawton.
Burial with full military honors will be at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, Oklahoma.
Raymond was born on May 4, 1941 in Lawton, Oklahoma to Raymond and Grace (Jackson) Hornbeck. He grew up in Lawton where he attended school. He joined the United States Army in 1961 and served his country for over 20 years, serving two tours in Vietnam. He received many awards and medals including the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Service Medal with four Service Stars, Bronze Star Medal, two Overseas Service Bars, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm, Good Conduct Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, and Expert Infantry Badge. After retiring from the Army, he begin working for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier for the next 16 years, retiring in 1997. Raymond married Bessie Hartman on December 28, 1981 in Wichita Falls, Texas and they made Lawton their home. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and working on cars.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Bessie Hornbeck, of the home; his sons and daughters in law, Chris and Julia Hornbeck, of Oklahoma City, OK, Tommy Hornbeck, of San Antonio, TX, Delbert White, of Geronimo, OK, and John and Rachel Hornbeck, of Lawton, OK; two sisters, Betty and Darlene; his brother in law and sister in law, Aaron and Melissa Brinker; grandchildren, Cherish Hornbeck, Kaileigh Hornbeck, Olivia Hornbeck, Tommy Hornbeck, Holly Hornbeck, and Dillion White; and his nephew, Xander Brinker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Tommy and his sister, Linda.
