Funeral service for Virginia Ree Holmes, 86, of Lawton will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 23, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Wayne Morris officiating.
Mrs. Holmes passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2019 in Lawton.
Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.
Virginia was born on July 13, 1933 in Walters, Oklahoma to Roys and Margaret (Shumaker) Allen. She was raised in Lawton where she attended school, graduating from Lawton High School in 1951. Virginia then attended Cameron and Oklahoma State University. She married the love of her life, Leo Edwin Holmes on December 11, 1953 and they resided in Lawton where Virginia worked as a school secretary in the material center at Tomlinson Junior High School from 1965 until retiring on April 23, 1996. Mr. Holmes passed away on October 25, 2001. Mrs. Holmes was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, joining in 1967. She was in the Builder's Sunday School Class, The Lydia Circle, and served as a Deacon.
She is survived by her greatest blessings; her son and daughter in law, Leo Allen and Eileen Holmes, of Lawton, OK; her daughter and son in law, Brenda and Kenneth Ankney, of Cache, OK; her granddaughters and spouses, Margaret Briley and Danny Payne, of Moore, OK, Sarah Brimm, of Lawton, OK, Kalie and Jacob Jung, of Edmond, OK, and Bret and Tony Jacobsma, of Oklahoma City, OK; her great grandchildren, Gage McElhaney, Grayson McElhaney, Morgan Abbott, Kelbie Brimm, Chase Brimm, Ava Jung, Ellis Jung, and Jack Jung.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo Edwin Holmes; and her son in law, Tony Briley.
