William "Bill" Lee Sanders

Graveside service for William Lee "Bill" Sanders, 73 of Lawton will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, September 17, 2021 at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, Oklahoma with Larry Town officiating.

Mr. Sanders passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 in Lawton.

Arrangements are under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. 

Bill was born on September 27, 1947 in Lamar, Colorado to Anton J. and Evelyn Ruth (Robertson) Sanders. He grew up in Lamar where he attended school, graduating from Lamar High School in 1965. He attended Lamar Community College and joined the United States Navy on March 21, 1966. He served his country in Vietnam with the First Battalion 9th Marine Division.  He received many awards and medals including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with FMF Combat Operation InSignia, Vietnam Campaign with Device, Presidential Unit Citation, and the Purple Heart. After his honorable discharge on March 20, 1970, Bill returned home to Lamar, Colorado where he lived for two to three years. He later moved to Kansas City, Kansas where he met Nadine Town and they later moved to  Mesquite, Texas. They married on April 4, 1975. While living in Mesquite, Bill worked at Woolco as an appliance manager. They later moved to Oklahoma City and in 1985 the family moved to Lawton, Oklahoma where Bill owned and operated Sight 'n Sound in Lawton and Altus until his retirement. He was a 33rd Degree Mason, member of the India Temple Shrine, and a lifetime member of Ducks Unlimited. He was also a perpetual member of Military Order of the Purple Heart. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. 

He is survived by his wife, Nadine, of the home; two daughters and a son in law, NaRissa and Benjamin Anderson, of Tuttle, OK and Evelyn Sanders, of Lawton, OK; his granddaughter (his buddy),  Victoria Sanders; two nephews, Curtis Thayer, of Rowlett, TX and Tony Thayer of Dallas, TX. 

He is preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, William Wayne Anderson; and his sister, Mary Ann Thayer.  

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospital.
