Memorial service for Phyllis E. Pennell, 67, of Lawton, Oklahoma will be at 2:00 p,m, Monday July 28, 2014 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, with Rev. Lisa Beavers, officiating.
A private family burial will be held at a later date at Letitia Cemetery.
Mrs. Pennell passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 in Lawton, Oklahoma
Arrangements are under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.
Phyllis E. Pennell was born April 23, 1947, in Lawton, Oklahoma to Emiline Pennell Munson and Chester Louis Pennell.  She graduated from Lawton High School in 1965 and received a Master of Arts degree in Psychology in 1980 from Texas A&M in Corpus Christi, Texas.
She worked for H.E.B. in Corpus Christi, Texas, the State of Texas in the Attorney General’s Office and  Worker’s Compensation Court, for Northrup-Grumman, and as a business consultant for other business organizations.  Phyllis was a Project Manager and managed computer programmers through much of her career.   She was an active volunteer during her career serving in the arts community, as United Way loaned executive, Court Appointed Special Advocate and a foster parent.
She returned to Lawton in 2006 where she remained active in community and volunteer organizations.  She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church where she served on the Trustees, Missions and Art Show Committees and as Coordinator of Family Promise activities.  Phyllis was an active participant in many mission activities locally through the St. John’s feeding program and the Lawton Food Bank, at Cookson Hills, and in Haiti.    Her deep desire was to help those in need where and when she could.
Phyllis was a member of the Lawton Area Friends of Iris Society, Petunia Club, active in the MacArthur Park Homeowner’s Association, and enjoyed travel and attending music and theatrical productions.
Survivors include three brothers and sisters-in-law:  John and Josette Pennell, Oklahoma City; Paul and Barbara Pennell, Edmond; and Kenneth and Annette Munson, Plano, Texas; nieces and nephews: Chester, and his wife Tonya Pennell, Eric Pennell, Madison Munson, Kennedy Munson, and April Crabtree.    She is also survived by her cousin, Lanetta Martin and her husband, Rick of Geronimo, and other loved cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Chester Louis Pennell and Emiline Pennell Munson.
Memorial contributions may be made to Family Promise of Lawton, St. Paul’s UMC or Lawton Food Bank.
