Word has been received of the death of former Florence, Alabama resident, Walter Louis Smothers, 85, of Lawton, Oklahoma.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
Mr. Smothers, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 in Lawton, Oklahoma
Walter was born on December 11th, 1928 in Memphis, Tennessee to Walter Brownlow and Loraine (Forester) Smothers. He worked for Ford Motor Company as an Inspector for Aluminum Die Casts until his retirement in 1983. He has been in Lawton since May with his son, Richard Smothers. He enjoyed hunting and fishing on the Tennessee River.
Survivors include his two sons, Richard Smother and his wife Nilda, of Lawton, Oklahoma and Michael "Shawn Longfeather" Smothers, of Arizona; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren and a host of many other relatives and friends.
Mr. Smothers was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Billie Ditto, a granddaughter and two great grandchildren.
