Funeral service for Larry Lee Wright, 67, of Indiahoma, will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Sunset Memorial Gardens Chapel of Peace Mausoleum with Rev. Dennis Dawson officiating. 

Mr. Wright passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on his birthday.

Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.

Larry was born on April 4, 1950 in Ashland, Kansas to Leslie Harold and Margaret (Volden) Wright. Larry was baptized at the Christian Church in Coldwater, Kansas on Halloween night at the young age of 9. He grew up in Coldwater, Comanche, Kansas where he attended school, graduating in 1968. After high school, he attended Vocational school at Northwest Kansas Area Vocational Tech School in Goodland, Texas for one year. The following year, he went to work for a company that overhauled power plant engines for 2 years; in the United States Virgin Island, Norton and Protection Kansas. Afterwards, he moved to Denver Colorado and worked for a road construction company until he was laid off in late 1971. He moved back to Coldwater, Kansas in March of 1972 and went into business with his father, bought a combine, and worked for Leslie Wright & Son Harvesting. Between harvests, he worked for whoever needed help; driving trucks, operating heavy equipment, and carpentry work just to name a few. In November of 1975 he was hired on with the Burlington Northern Rail Road in Cheyenne, Wyoming as a Brakeman and was furloughed in March 1976. He did the same thing in November 1976 until March 1977. In October of 1980, he was hired on with the Sante Fe Railroad in Wellington, Kansas, in the car department. He was displaced March 28, 1981 due to cut backs with the railroad. On March 30, 1981 he went to work for the Cotton Belt Railroad in Pratt, Kansas, and in the mid 1990's, the S.P/Cotton Belt became the Union Pacific Railroad. He was hired on as a semi driver, hauling material for the maintenance of way. He worked for many years on the tracks and was a full time Union Representative for the BMWED/IBT for 15 years, and always said he was 'an underpaid lawyer.' Larry also worked for the Allied Federation and served as Vice Chairman. He worked for 32 years before retiring on June 1, 2013. He married Helen F. Harris on April 3, 2006 in Wichita Falls, Texas. They were happily married for 11 years. Larry enjoyed woodworking, remodeling, tilling his garden with his tractor, lawn work and raising his chickens for eggs. He was active in Genealogy and Ancestry and he spoiled his wife. 

He is survived by his wife, Helen, of the home; his son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Chasity Wright, of KS; two daughters and a son-in-law, Kimberly and Mark Green, of TN and Wendy F. Provencher, of Lawton; his brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Lela Wright, of KS; two sisters, Ruth Denny, of KS and Helen Jolly, of WA; 4 grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 4 step-great grandchildren; 2 step-great grandchildren, Mason and Allison Ryan of Lawton; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Memorial donations may be made to the Indiahoma Volunteer Fire Department, at 900 Showplace Blvd, Indiahoma, OK 73552, in his memory.
