Benny was born on July 14, 1929 in Cyril, Oklahoma to Emmett and Grace (Mora) Meraz. He grew up in Lawton where he attended school, graduating from Lawton High School in 1948. While in high school, he played football and received a football scholarship to the University of New Mexico where he majored in Physical Education. After graduating from college, he joined the United States Navy and served his country as a submarine navigator. After the Navy, Benny received his Masters Degree in guidance and counseling from the University of Oklahoma. He then returned  to Lawton and was a football coach at the Fort Sill Indian School and also coached at Quannah, Texas. He later worked in the Insurance Business and was inducted into the Million Dollar Round Table before retiring. Benny loved to dance and without any formal training (his sisters taught him how to dance in the living room of their home) he was a natural finding rhythm in any music. He and his longtime friend of over 30 years, Donna Littlefield taught ballroom dancing in many places including the Lawton Country Club, Duncan Country Club, Cameron University and the Simmons Center for over 10 years. He enjoyed golfing and fishing.

He is survived by longtime friend, Donna Littlefield, of Lawton and her son and daughter in law, Austin and Anissa Littlefield, of Dallas, Texas; his brother, Emmett Meraz, Jr. of Lawton; numerous nieces and nephews including, Emmett Meraz, III, Jonathan Meraz, Gerald Meraz, Aaron Meraz, Nathaniel Meraz, Danny Eppler and his wife, Gloria, Rudy Eppler and his wife Irma, and Janelle Hooper and husband Dick; many great nieces, great nephews and a host of loving friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Grace Meraz; and 11 brothers and sisters.
